CARTONEROS

CARTONEROS (Argentina, 2006, 60 min.)

From the trash pickers who collect paper informally, through middlemen in warehouses, to executives in large corporate mills, this film spotlights the paper recycling process in Buenos Aires. This traditional local industry exploded into a multimillion-dollar industry after Argentina's latest economic collapse. The film is both a record of an economic and social crisis and an invitation for audiences to rethink the value of trash. Directed by Ernesto Livon-Grosman. Produced by Angélica Allende Brisk.

Introduced by Conrado Solari Yrigoyen, Cultural Minister, Embassy of Argentina. Discussion with filmmaker Ernesto Livon-Grosman follows screening.
