Bridget Besaw

Bridget is on a life-long quest to evoke dГ©jГ  vu.

Bridgetв’s intention is to craft visual stories that serve as a rousting, yet romantic reminder of our collective instinct to care for the planet that sustains us.

As a newspaper and magazine photographer Bridget won numerous national press awards for environmental stories for magazines such as Newsweek, Time, Forbes, Fortune, The New York Times, Business Week, Smithsonian, National Geographic Adventure and Nature Conservancy Magazine.

Bridgetв’s passion for these stories naturally led to her niche in producing photo exhibits, books and video series in collaboration with environmental organizations.

Bridgetв’s projects have documented issues such as development threats to Maineв’s wilderness, loss of working farmland in New England, restoration of crucial salmon habitat in the North Pacific, wilderness preservation in South America, and sustainable fisheries initiatives throughout the world.

The subjects of her two photo books Wildness Within Wildness Without and From the Land serve as inspiration for her current film projects about wilderness preservation ethos and food sustainability.

Organizations who have partnered with Bridget to create imagery and film projects include Maine Farmland Trust, The Nature Conservancy, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, Patagonia, Patagonia Sur Foundation, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, NOAA, Blue Earth Alliance, Chewonki Foundation, The Kittredge Foundation, and The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

Bridgetв’s work is supported by Leica Camera Company and is represented by Aurora Pictures. She is proud to be on the board of the leading cause-driven photography organization Blue Earth Alliance and the conservation organization Maine Woods Forever. She is also a communication advisor for the Environmental Visual Communication program at Fleming College in Toronto.

To nurture the ever-growing genre, Bridget finds great fulfillment in teaching the conservation photography workshops that she developed for Maine Media Workshops and Leica Akademie North America.
