The current building was constructed in the early 1980s. An architectural competition was held in 1975 to determine the buildingв’s design. The winner was AndrГ© Remondet (b.1908), a graduate of the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts and George Washington University who holds the title of Chief Architect of Public Buildings. The Embassy was built between May 1982 and December 1984.
